Mozilla Thunderbird - POP3

Net Energy Internet hosted email

To configure Mozilla Thunderbird to collect email via POP3:

Your username and password can be found in the 'Account information' email sent to you when your service was started.

  1. Select 'File > New > Existing Mail Account'. The 'Account Wizard' will then start.
  2. Enter your name into the 'Your name' box.
  3. Enter your email address into the 'Email address' box.
  4. Enter your password into the 'Password' box then click 'Continue'.
  5. Thunderbird will search for the account configuration, once it has finished select 'POP3 (keep mail on your computer)' then click 'Manual config'.
  6. Under 'Incoming' select 'POP3' from the drop down menu then enter 'mail.netenergy.net' into the 'Server hostname' box, enter '110' into 'Port', select 'None' under 'SSL' and select 'Encrypted password' under 'Authentication'.
  7. Under 'Outgoing' enter 'mail.netenergy.net' into the 'Server hostname' box, enter '366' into 'Port', select 'None' under 'SSL' and select 'Encrypted password' under 'Authentication'.
  8. Enter your username into the 'Username' box, replacing what is already there.
  9. Click 'Re-test', Thunderbird will test the account configuration, once it has finished click 'Create Account'.
  10. Tick 'I understand the risks' then click 'Create Account'.
  11. Select 'Tools' followed by 'Account Settings'.
  12. Click 'Server Settings' under the account you just created and change 'For at most' to '1'.
  13. Click 'Composition & Addressing' under the account you just created and select 'start my reply above the quote' from the drop down menu, select 'below my reply (above the quote)' from the drop down menu then select 'Include signature for forwards'.
  14. Click 'Junk Settings' under the account you just created and ensure 'Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account' is selected, then select 'Move new junk messages to' and select 'Automatically delete junk mail older than'.
  15. Click 'Account Actions' and select 'Set as Default'.
  16. Click the 'OK' button to save your settings.
  17. You may be asked for your password the first time you send an email, enter it and select 'Use Password Manager to remember this password' then click 'OK'.
